![]() ![]() Prince Paul was masterly on the production here, and the thing still sounds pretty damn good. It is track number 1 in the album A.C.E Adventures in Wonderland. Their bit hit off this album “The Gas Face,” on which they dissed some fallen rappers of the day and which featured KMD member Zevlove X, who later become the notorious MF Doom. There’s nothing like a big, dopey Jewish guy to get white hip-hop on track. A.C.E () (pronounced as ace) is a Korean boy group consisting of 5 members: Donghun, Jun, Wow, Kim Byeongkwan and Chan. He was funny as hell, articulate and really tight on the mic. I heard MC Serch do some freestyling on a radio station L.A, around the time of the release of this album, and the guy was actually pretty awesome. They managed to walk the line, and gain some legitimacy by not trying to be something they weren’t. And the group is down a member in main vocal Chan, who is currently promoting with project group UNB. Gone are the hardstyle influences of previous singles Cactus and Callin. They’re clearly having a lot of fun on this album, and the lively production keeps things upbeat without getting cheesy and clownish. For those who have been following A.C.E since the beginning, Take Me Higher will come across as a complete 180 turn. Sure, they picked on easy targets like MC Hammer and Vanilla Ice, but they goofed around and mixed in some more serious tales from the street (despite not necessarily being from there). Yeah, man, we’re hard! These guys didn’t go that route. Where many white rappers failed was in their being too earnest (or too goofy). Cactus is the eponymous debut studio album by American hard rock band Cactus. (Also I'm just particularly happy that they're the reason I own a signed copy of my first fave's debut album, haha).Do we remember these guys because they were good, or because they were white? I think the answer is a little bit of both. A.C.E is a boy group that debuted this year. I've enjoyed using it occasionally for the few groups I really want to show support for, cause I'd certainly never get the opportunity otherwise to get signed stuff/special merchandise.
